Project: : Private House, Ballyhackamore
“I wanted to build an extension that was in keeping with the character of my house and its’ environment. I understood from the beginning that I needed to find an architect who would spend the time and attention in understanding my requirements.
I wanted to ensure that the quality of the light which floods through the house was preserved and that the extension looked as though it was part of the house, rather than an afterthought. I needed lots of storage space, a modern kitchen which maximised the views of my garden and a feeling of proportion – a tall order.
I was uncertain how to find an architect to realise my wishes until I read an article in a magazine which had photographs of an extension in an older house which perfectly in-capsulated the ethos I was looking for. The quality of the build, the finish, the attention to detail and the design were perfect. At last I had found someone who I felt would understand what I was looking for.
Once I saw the basic design Alastair produced for me, I knew that I was on the right track. Alastair understands quality and he delivered a design that makes the whole house look complete while still fulfilling the client brief. I have a house that is filled with light, I can still see the garden from the dining room, I have instant hot water, lots of purpose built storage, no detriment to the garden and I have had so much pleasure from my new kitchen and utility/working kitchen. Design may be expensive but as they say it’s worth it!”
